What is acupressure massage?

 July 17, 2019

Acupressure massage is a massage therapy technique based on the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine which involve the application of manual pressure usually with the fingertips to specific points on the body. These specific points are called acupressure points, which are also known as acupuncture points or acupoints are locations where chi or qi can be obtained to release blocked or clogged energy centers in the body to improve unobstructed chi flow for health and well-being.

It is known to relieve pain in specific areas of the body, promote relaxation and wellness, and to treat disease. Acupressure massage is applied by an Acupuncturist or a Practitioner.

How does it work?

It stimulates and activates the body’s healing energies to prevent illness. An acupuncturist will press on specific points to promote energy flow to a part of the body experiencing discomfort. There are two types of acupressure points:

1. A local point: This is a point of the body where you are experiencing pain or tension, which the acupuncturist stimulates to relieve the discomfort.

2. A trigger point: This is a point that the therapist stimulates to relieve pain, tension or other problems in another part of the body that’s not near the area in pain.
